Submission Guidelines

All Submissions may be sent to theexpanseeditorialstaff@gmail.com on a rolling basis. Please submit all written work in standard manuscript format.

NONFICTION:

Articles will be posted and shared on our website. A limited amount will be included in the actual publication for tone purposes. Which articles are chosen for the site and which are chosen for the quarterly publication will be chosen at our discretion.

• Maximum of 1,000 words.

• Articles should pertain to the speculative genre or the publishing industry.

• No journalism is bias-free and we make no plans to hide our unique perspectives from the world. 

• Articles should contain a balance of research within. If you are telling a personal anecdote about your experience in traditional publishing, that’s great! We’ll just need a bit more of a bigger picture alongside that.

• No paranormal experience stories will be accepted. All fiction stories must undergo our regular fiction review. 

Cover letters:

Please include the title of your piece in the subject line along with the word count. For example, Cover letters 100 words.

• A one-sentence statement of purpose for your piece.

• Your by-line.

• If you have not previously been published.

• Any relevant experience you may have regarding the subject matter.

• Optional: If you are a part of any marginalized group (ie. BIPOC, lgbtqia+, neuro-divergent, disability, etc.) We realize we are not perfect individuals but hope to provide equity in the writing community. We will not require this but we hope that you will trust us enough to let us know. This information will be strictly confidential unless provided in your by-line to be presented in the printed issue.
